Round Mountain and its neighbor Long Mountain form the backdrop for the McLennan Reservation, nearly 600 acres at the southeastern end of Tyringham Valley. In the saddle between these 1,500-foot elevations lies Hale Pond, created when Camp Brook is periodically dammed by beavers.

From the entrance, a one-and-a-half-mile trail follows the graceful rises and dips of this densely forested landscape before reaching the high plateau and Hale Swamp. The trail is moderate in difficulty, with some strenuous sections, but it pays off in striking views of unspoiled wilderness.

From Mass Turnpike (1-90), take Exit 10, Rt. 20 East. Take 1st right onto Rt. 102 West. Turn left onto Tyringham Rd. After 2.5 mi., continue onto Main Rd. After 3.7 mi., turn left onto Fenn Rd. (dirt road) and park along the road. Walk up Fenn Rd. 0.5 mi. to entrance.

There is a trail map posted on a kiosk in the main parking area. It is recommended that you photograph the map or download a trail map before you head out.
