As you plan your visit to one of our special places, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Know where you are going Make sure you have downloaded a trail or property map and that you can access it easily either on your smartphone or by printing it out. If you’re planning to be far away from people, make sure you have a working phone, and that someone knows where you are headed. Better yet, bring a friend!
Pack Essentials Make sure you have enough water, snacks, footwear and clothing appropriate for your activity, and basic first aid supplies. Our properties that have staff will have emergency supplies, but if you’re planning to be out on a trail and away from people, it’s very important to be prepared for lots of contingencies.
Check the weather Massachusetts is notorious for sudden swings in weather conditions. Regardless of the season, make sure you have adequate layers, and that you keep watch on the environment around you.
Check hours of operation Most properties are open year-round, daily, sunrise to sunset. Historic houses are open seasonally. Please check property closing times and last tour departure times in advance.
Leave No Trace Always be sure to carry out everything that you carried into the woods or other natural areas. Pick up your trash, clean up after your dog, and stay on marked trails.
You will see wildlife Which is great! Please be respectful and leave any animals and plants alone.
