What Prepare for the Harvest Moon with the Trustees Boston Resilience team for an easy walk through Bussey Brook Meadow, one of Boston’s urban wilds. Presented by The Trustees with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s Urban Wilds Program.
The Full Harvest Moon reaches peak fullness at 12:49PM—right in the middle of our walk. It’s below the horizon at midday, so we won’t see it, but we’ll be out here for the exact minute it turns full. The Harvest Moon is the one that falls closest to the fall equinox, and it rises just after sunset for several nights in a row instead of the usual near-hour later—extra evening light that once helped farmers bring in the harvest before the first frost.
We’ll lead you through a short meditation for some reflection on what this Harvest moon will bring. You have the option to participate or to wait until we are finished!
Bussey Brook Meadow is 24 acres of meadow, wetland, and young woods between Forest Hills Station and the Arnold Arboretum. It’s one of about 30 urban wilds—undeveloped natural land the City has protected across Boston’s neighborhoods since the 1970s.
Walk starts at 12:00NOON, the moon turns full at 12:49PM, and we’ll be out until 1:15PM.
After the walk, there will be an opportunity to walk to nearby cafe (10 minute walk from path), Thirdcliff Bakery! Fun, but attendance not required.

Cost: Free
Getting there By transit: Forest Hills Station (Orange Line and several bus routes), the Blackwell Footpath is right across the street from the Forest Hills station. By car: side street parking
Accessibility The Blackwell Footpath is ADA accessible and runs from Forest Hills Station into the meadow—this walk can stay on it the whole way. Meadow edges off the path are grassy and uneven.
Bring Water, sun protection, and layers. Long pants are a good idea for the meadow edges!
