Mobile Market

Our Mobile Market provides under-resourced communities with affordable, healthy, and locally sourced produce.

Please visit us at one of our markets in your community!

We offer seasonal, certified organic produce, grown on our farms in eastern Massachusetts. We accept payments in the form of SNAP, HIP, WIC, Massachusetts Farmer’s Market Coupons, City of Boston Farmer’s Market Coupons, cash, and credit card. We also offer a monthly vegetable share.

Vegetable HIP CSA

We offer a monthly vegetable share designed for SNAP recipients. They contain a selection of seasonal organic produce, which you receive twice a month, and are paid in full using your monthly HIP benefits. If you are interested in purchasing a share, please contact us at gmaffe@thetrustees.org

We distribute the shares in the following locations:

  • Georgetowne Housing (Hyde Park): Thursdays (for residents only)
  • GreenRoots (Chelsea): Thursday

Since 2017, our Mobile Market has provided under-resourced communities with a reliable source of healthy, local produce at an affordable price. The Mobile Market carries a wide variety of vegetables sourced primarily from our very own farms, Powisset and Appleton. The Mobile Market offers shares to subscribers who use SNAP/HIP benefits, with an average of 200 shares distributed per month from July through the end of November.

In addition to the SNAP/HIP shares, The Trustees’ Mobile Market offers home delivery shares, which are delivered to food-insecure households that do not qualify for benefits. These shares are donor-supported and are free for enrolled customers. The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) identifies participating customers, and we are continuing this program in 2024.

We have been sharing recipes with our Mobile Market customers since 2017 as our customers have a strong passion for cooking and obtain a wide range of culinary skills and knowledge. These recipes are truly special as they reflect the customers’ unique backgrounds and cultural heritage, bringing together dishes from all corners of the world with locally sourced produce from our Trustees farms.

In 2022, we forged a partnership with the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) and gogobytes to support their free cooking classes for elderly residents in East Boston. By providing free produce, they were able to increase the frequency of these classes from monthly to bi-weekly. This not only allowed them to provide more opportunities for seniors to learn and connect through cooking, but also to promote community engagement in a meaningful and impactful way.

The pandemic has continued to highlight social and economic inequality throughout the country, and in Boston, similarly, food insecurity and the need for open space for mental and physical wellbeing are evident, especially in low-income, high-density communities.

The Mobile Market continues to be an important and valued resource, contributing significantly to the food access needs of the communities it serves. This work is only possible through our meaningful partnerships with community-based organizations.

My family needs the mobile market. Cooking is what we do. It’s part of our culture, and you can’t cook with bad ingredients. [This market] has the best ingredients I’ve seen in Boston, and I can actually afford it.

There’s so much more variety at the market this year. There’s berries every week. There’s honey, eggs, milk, and cheese. I can rely on it.
