About Bussey Brook Meadow Bioblitz
Who All ages. Good for families, students, and anyone who’s wanted to know the name of a plant or a bird! No experience needed.
What Community science: We walk, look closely, and record every living thing we find. Bussey Brook Meadow packs meadow, wetland, and young woods into 24 acres, so there’s a lot to discover. You’ll learn to log observations with iNaturalist on your phone, and what the group records goes into a public dataset that researchers and land managers use. Presented by The Trustees with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s Urban Wilds Program.

Cost Free.
Getting there By transit: Forest Hills Station (Orange Line and several bus routes) is 3 minutes from the meadow via the Blackwell Path. By car: Side street parking available, no lots.
Accessibility The Blackwell Footpath is ADA accessible and runs from Forest Hills Station to the Arboretum’s South Street Gate. You can take part in the full survey from the path alone — plenty to record without leaving it. Side trails off the path are narrower, unpaved, and uneven. Restrooms: closer near the arboretum.
Bring A charged phone with the iNaturalist app downloaded ahead of time if you can, water, and shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Long pants are a good idea — this is meadow and woods edge, so do a tick check afterward.
