Looking for something to do in Massachusetts this weekend? Here are some highlights across the state.
This New England weather has us ready to get outside for a walk, hike, or tour before the cold temperatures start to set in. We’ll see you at the Trustees this weekend on the trails, at the farm, or on a tour.
Join Native Nature Educator & Artist Elizabeth James-Perry on a plant walk along the trails of Appleton Farms in Ipswich and Hamilton, followed by a milkweed fiber processing demonstration. Participants will learn about culturally important Indigenous woodland and coastal plants in the Northeast. Autumn is a great time to use colorful leaves, bark, late-season fruits and scents to learn about coniferous and deciduous tree, plant, and shrub species used to make traditional natural products, Wampanoag basketry, foods, and natural dyestuffs.
Tally Ho! Find the Amelia Peabody Memorial Hunt at Powisset Farm and Noanet Woodlands this weekend. Follow the foxhounds along as they follow a drag scent (no live foxes are hunted) through the woods and fields. This free and exciting event covers two Trustees special places.
Learn about the history of the Old Manse in Concord this weekend with one or more of its tours. Friday through Sunday, skilled interpreters host a variety of guided experiences including Home to Two Revolutions, Flipping the Script: The Women of the Old Manse a Family-Friendly Tour, Attic Tours, and American Contradictions: Enslavement and the American Revolution.
On the North Shore instead? Take one of the many tours at the Great House on the Crane Estate or get outside with a CraneOutdoors program in Ipswich. Enjoy learning about the history of the Cranes through one of the Castle Hill Tours, including Guest of the Cranes, Cupola with a View, Behind the Scenes in the Great House, and The Cat’s Meow (perfect for young families). If you can’t decide which tour to take—never fear—Grand Stairs to Back Stairs has you covered. Check out the schedule to see which tours run each day! Looking to get outside? Take a hike in the dunes or enjoy a late fall sunset hike to Cedar Point.
Enjoy fun and free events with our Trustees Mobile Adventures and Boston teams this weekend. Mobile Adventures will be at the New Bedford Public Library celebrating the beauty of autumn. Discover the wonders of the season through free hands-on activities that explore the science of color, how animals get ready for winter, and how environments shift as the seasons change. In Boston, enjoy a birdwatching walk at Belle Isle Marsh, the city’s last remaining salt marsh. Watch the wave of migratory birds that call this place home throughout the seasons and learn about climate change and the importance of salt marshes along our coast.
