WHERE: Farmer, Forester, Chef! Camp at historic Powisset Farm in Dover is about getting outside, spreading wings, expanding senses, fostering imagination, and digging in. Campers become farmers on our scenic 109-acre working farm, foresters on our trails and at neighboring Noanet Woodlands, and chefs in our signature teaching kitchen. Our program is inspired by this exceptional property and builds on The Trustees’ expertise in nature conservation, historic landscapes, regenerative agriculture, and culinary exploration.
WHAT: Every day campers enjoy farm-based activities that align with our environmental education mission. Campers will go home each afternoon with stories about their new barnyard and camp buddies!
On the FarmEach day, our junior farmers learn about where food comes from—both plants and livestock—by participating in activities as varied as composting, planting, harvesting, and preparing soil for crops. They get to know the most important members of our farm team—pigs, sheep, goats, and rabbits—by caring for the animals and learning about animal life on our working CSA farm.
In the KitchenBecause great farming translates into fantastic food, our junior chefs learn about healthy, farm-fresh ingredients while preparing delicious recipes in Powisset’s fully equipped teaching kitchen. On Fridays, campers make garden-inspired pizza in our outdoor brick oven for a camp pizza party! In addition to immediately indulging in their creations, campers bring recipes home to share with families. Note: campers still bring their own lunch to camp every day.
In the WoodsJunior forester days focus on exploring our natural world. Younger campers visit Powisset’s extensive nature trails while older campers may explore neighboring Noanet Woodlands, where they hike the hills and trails and discover the wonders of woodland flora and fauna.
WHO: Farmer, Forester, Chef! is designed for campers who love the outdoors, caring for farm animals, cooking in the kitchen, getting their hands dirty, connecting to the land, using their imagination, and tapping into their resilience no matter the weather. A team of talented, compassionate, and energetic educators support campers in their quest to connect to the natural world and find their place within it.

Parent Testimonials:
You did a phenomenal job adjusting and adapting the program to state requirements and protecting the health of campers and staff. Both staff and children wore masks (properly!), which was our biggest concern going into camp. Thank you for this sorely needed opportunity for structured, social fun outdoors! Kudos to the Trustees and the camp team!

The first day was a little rough, and I communicated my concerns to the camp director – she went above and beyond to address them and clarify what actually happened. My daughter ended up having a fantastic week and was really proud of her creations- food and friendship bracelets! We appreciate everything you did to make the camp happen- it’s been a lifesaver for us as working parents, but also the first chance in many months for our child to have socialization again in a safe environment.

Powisset Camp is our girls’ absolute favorite, you all do an amazing job and especially so this summer with all the COVID concerns. Our daughters went to the camp last summer and we weren’t sure how it would compare this year because of all the safety measures, but it was every bit as wonderful while still providing a very safe environment for the kids. The girls woke up early every morning to get ready for camp, they were so excited to go, and we only wish we had signed up for more weeks. It is apparent how much hard work the camp director and all of the counselors put into the experience there, we could not love it more and will be back next summer!! Thank you for everything!
