BOSTON, Mass. — The Trustees, Agricultural Hall, GrowBoston, UMass Extension, The Department of Conservation and Recreation, and a growing partnership of grassroots urban agriculture practitioners are proud to present the ninth Urban Agriculture and Climate Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roxbury Heritage State Park. This free, family-friendly event will create a vibrant hub of hands-on learning, fun and games. Learn directly from local urban farmers and climate advocates who are on the ground feeding our community, and helping us stay connected to Earth.

Every year, Fair participants celebrate the agricultural bounty of our waning summer with games, demos, delicious free food from Dorchester Food Coop and Michelle Green Thumbz, and a panoply of interactive activities for all ages.

 “The Fair becomes a delightful space for cross pollination, where everyone teaches, everyone learns, and everyone has fun,” said Annabel Rabiyah, The Trustees’ Regional Engagement Manager for Boston and Urban Outdoors. “This is community members sharing their skills and showcasing how simple it is to grow, cook, and celebrate agricultural thriving throughout Boston’s neighborhoods. Together, we’re sowing the seeds of community resilience and self-reliance, and this is our chance to share it with the next generation of urban farmers!”

Urban agriculture is one of the most powerful tools for climate resilience. It cools the city, captures carbon, holds stormwater, and nurtures the biodiversity that keeps neighborhoods healthy. Come see how Boston’s growers are on the front lines of climate action, building a greener, more biodiverse, and more resilient city one garden at a time – and how you can do it too.

Event Highlights include:

•     Educational demonstrations on gardening, beekeeping, mushroom growing, composting, maple sugaring, acorn and other native nut processing, growing and nurturing backyard fruit trees, raising chickens and caring for pigeons in your backyard, and more;
•     Guided tour of a honeybee hive;
•     Live music from a local DJ;
•     Free rapid soil sampling;
•     Free food from Dorchester Food Coop and Garden fresh mango salad, made on site during the fair by Michelle Green Thumbz;
•     Participate in a Bioblitz community led wildlife survey and learn about other community led ecology work in the city;
•     Games for all ages with prizes;
•     Cheese making demo: learn to make your own Manchego with a local fromager;
•     Fresh cider-making with an antique cider mill, and a pedal-powered smoothie machine;
•     A judging table, where gardeners and farmers are encouraged to enter their homegrown fruits and vegetables for a chance to win ribbons, prizes, and bragging rights, including the coveted “Pome d’Or” gold ribbon and $100 cash prize; and
•     A Community Conversation on race, power, and land access in the city lead by leaders from Paige Academy.
