Who All ages. Good for families, students, and anyone who’s wanted to know the name of a plant or a bird! No experience needed.
What A BioBlitz is simple: we walk, we look closely, and we record every living thing we find. You’ll learn to log observations with iNaturalist on your phone, and what the group records goes into a public dataset that researchers and land managers actually use. Mid-October is good for fungi, late-blooming plants, seed heads, and sparrows and other birds moving through.
Mattahunt Woods is nine acres of forested wetland, permanently protected in 2008 after a community campaign and since improved with new trails and native plantings. It’s one of about 30 urban wilds — undeveloped natural land the City has protected across Boston’s neighborhoods since the 1970s. Presented by The Trustees with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s Urban Wilds Program.
