About The Art of Sun Printing: A Cyanotype Workshop
Discover the magic of one of the oldest photographic printing techniques in this hands‑on cyanotype workshop at Weir River Farm. Cyanotype is a process in which images are created using UV light—either from the sun or a controlled source—to produce striking prints. Simple, creative, and endlessly customizable, cyanotypes offer a wonderful introduction to alternative photography.
This workshop begins with a guided nature walk through the English Woodlands of Weir River Farm, where participants will learn about the location and its history as artist Polly Thayer Starr art studio and residence. Along the walk, you’ll gather natural materials—such as leaves, grasses, and other natural objects—to use in your cyanotype compositions.
After returning from the trail, you’ll prepare and expose your prints, exploring how light, shape, and texture combine to create beautiful, one‑of‑a‑kind artwork. All materials are provided, and no prior art or photography experience is required.
This program is geared towards adults, however, all are welcome.

Pre-registration is required for this event.
Parking is available in the lot located across from the Studio at 140 Turkey Hill Lane. Accessible parking is available next to the Studio. Participants will meet in the Studio building.

We love our furry friends, however, as this is a working farm with animals, dogs are not permitted on the property.
