Oversand vehicle trail along a beach on Martha's Vineyard

Before purchasing your permit, you are required to watch the OSV driving video below. This comprehensive Vineyard OSV training is designed to ensure all beach drivers understand the unique responsibilities and safety protocols required for over-sand vehicle operation on Martha’s Vineyard’s pristine beaches.

The Vineyard OSV training video covers essential topics including proper tire pressure adjustments, beach driving techniques, environmental protection guidelines, and emergency procedures. You’ll learn about respecting protected wildlife habitats, understanding tide schedules, and recognizing areas where driving is prohibited to protect nesting shorebirds and fragile dune ecosystems.

Upon completion of the full video, a check box will appear for you to attest to watching the video, before you can proceed to the OSV permit purchase page. This is required for purchase and entry to beach. The training typically takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete and must be viewed in its entirety without skipping sections.

This mandatory Vineyard OSV training ensures that all permitted drivers contribute to the preservation of our coastal environment while enjoying responsible beach access. The video instruction includes best practices for avoiding getting stuck in soft sand, proper techniques for navigating beach terrain, and guidelines for sharing the beach respectfully with other visitors, including pedestrians and wildlife.

Please note that completing this training video is just one step in the permit process. You’ll also need to ensure your vehicle meets all safety requirements, including proper equipment such as a tire pressure gauge, shovel, and tow rope. The knowledge gained from this training video will help protect both the natural beauty of Martha’s Vineyard’s beaches and ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all beach users throughout the season.
