Lindsay Brown (LB): My name is Lindsay Brown. I’m the Senior Engagement Manager here at The FARM Institute.
Darci Schofield (DS): Lindsay is a bit of a superhero. She’s not just Employee of the Year. She’s a superhero at The FARM Institute. She’s creative, she’s tenacious, she’s inspiring. She’s so incredibly humble and she is resilient and unwavering and kind and generous and loving.
LB: So being the Senior Engagement Manager, I do all of our public programs here and everything that that entails here at the farm. So, because we are just the educational entity here, really the engagement and education is who we are and what we do. So, I could be taking care of the animals. It could be meeting people who are just walking around the farm, wondering what they’re doing. It could be leading a tour. It could be doing a kid’s program. It could be doing a culinary class. So, it’s a little bit of everything, honestly. And I think that’s what makes my job so special, that I get to be inside, outside, with people, without people, with animals. It’s really special.
Lindsay at The FARM Institute
DS: When I think about why Lindsay is the Employee of the Year, she not only has resilience and the adaptation to withstand the changes of everyone’s career, she has learned to thrive within those changes. She has learned to bring even more joy, even more community, even more food to this place. So, she’s not only resilience, she is a shining star.
LB: I think that it is important to work here because I think it’s important to connect people back to the land. I get them to work with people, work with animals. So, for me, it really checks all those boxes. And I think it’s just knowing at the end of the day that what you’re doing is important, it feels good.
The FARM Institute is a place that brings people together, thanks to Lindsay's work.
DS: Lindsay mentioned when she was hired by The FARM Institute, it was to do marketing. And here she is running a whole farm, whether it’s livestock care, husbandry, growing crops, managing programs, managing partnerships, nurturing partnerships, her job has really just grown in so many dimensions.
LB: So, the Trustees’ mission is to preserve and protect special places throughout Massachusetts. And I think Katama Farm, here where The FARM Institute is, it ticks all those boxes. We are a special place.
DS: This is the place where everyone belongs. And Lindsay’s dedication to that belonging is one of her greatest accomplishments here
