About Field to Felting: A Sheep Shearing to Felting Workshop

Step into the full wool-to-art journey at Weir River Farm with Field to Felting- an immersive, hands-on experience celebrating our beloved flock of sheep!

In Field to Felting, guests are welcomed behind the scenes for an up-close introduction to the farm’s sheep and learn about the vital role sheep play in sustainable fiber production.

Your experience begins in the pasture with a guided health check of one of our fuzzy residents, followed by a live sheep‑shearing demonstration led by our farmer. Questions are encouraged throughout, and participants will even have the chance to try their hand at shearing during the process. Once the freshly shorn wool is collected, we will transition to the classroom to explore how raw fleece is cleaned, processed, and transformed into the textiles we use every day.

The journey continues with a felting demonstration where you will receive all the tools, materials, and guidance needed to create your own felted wool project to take home.

Blending animal interaction, traditional farm skills, creativity, and hands-on learning, this program offers a true “field to farm” adventure—and a meaningful piece of the farm to carry with you.

This program is geared towards adults, however, interested children ages 10+ are welcome with an accompanying adult.

This program will meet in the barnyard. Parking is available in the lot located across from the Studio at 140 Turkey Hill Lane. To reach the barn and barnyard, enter the “chute” directly across from the lot and follow it down to the barnyard. Accessible parking is available. Please email weirriver@thetrustees.org for directions.

Pre-registration online is required and space is limited. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, you will be contacted through the email address you provided during registration.

We love our furry friends, however, as this is a working farm with live animals, dogs are not permitted on the property.
