WHERE:Rocky Woods is a historic 491-acre reservation in Medfield full of outdoor adventures. A prized habitat for songbirds, bullfrogs, beavers, and painted turtles, Rocky Woods is also a great place for campers to spread their wings and explore. This enchanting landscape hosts miles of scenic trails, ponds full of aquatic life, dramatic geological formations, and panoramic views. Our program is inspired by this exceptional property and builds on The Trustees’ expertise in nature conservation, historic landscapes, and public trail management.

WHAT:Every day campers enjoy nature-based activities that align with our environmental education mission. Campers will go home each day with stories about their new camp buddies!

  • Discovering Life in the Woods
Nature Explorers will spend their days discovering the varied habitats of Rocky Woods. Campers will discover where and how animals live—including the popular beaver construction sites—identify songbirds, listen for bullfrogs, look for signs of life under logs, and go ponding to witness the wonders of life under water.
  • Making Friends and Connecting to Nature
Nature Explorers will take picnic hikes to Whale Rock and Cedar Hill, help forest friends by creating bird feeders and insect hotels, and discover the secret lives of trees, flowers, and insects. Nature journals document campers’ adventures and discoveries, and nature art projects bring out their creative side. Campers make new friends while they find their individual and group connections to the fascinating natural world around them.

WHO:Rocky Woods Nature Explorers is designed for campers who love the outdoors, discovering life in the woods, getting their hands dirty, connecting to the land, using their imagination, and tapping into their resilience no matter the weather. A team of talented, compassionate, and energetic educators support campers in their quest to connect to the natural world and find their place within it.

  • The daily rhythm of camp is consistent week to week. We have noticed that after 4 weeks, some campers are looking for new adventures. Please consider this when registering.
  • If you have any inquiries about whether your camper will thrive at Rocky Woods Nature Explorers, please contact the camp office.

Parent Testimonials

Two of my boys went and it was the first camp experience for my youngest. He was really nervous the first day, but by Wednesday he told me he wanted to go again and this time could do it without his big brother!

– Camp Parent

Great counselors, fun activities. We felt extra safe with both the camp’s COVID precautions and the extra steps taken during really hot days.

– Camp Parent

The children loved the activities and the freedom to roam and play and really get hands-on with nature. The counsellors were enthusiastic and gave the kids lots of freedom, without unnecessary rules and regulations. Having said that, they ensured the kids were safe at all times. Ideal camp.
