Rocky Woods Nature Explorers Camp, Medfield

June 27–August 12
Monday–Friday, 9AM–3PM
For Ages 5–9

Rocky Woods Nature Explorers Camp at the historic 491-acre Rocky Woods Reservation in Medfield is about outdoor adventures  where campers meet new friends—including frogs, beavers, insects, birds, and much more! Our friendly, engaging, and experienced educators welcome campers ages 5-9 for weekly sessions to discover this enchanting landscape. Nature Explorers will learn about local flora and fauna, identify trees and discover animal habitats, go ponding, and explore the trails and favorite features of Rocky Woods.

Discovering Life in the Woods
Nature Explorers will spend their days discovering the varied habitats of Rocky Woods. Numerous hiking trails, panoramic views, ponds full of life, dramatic geological formations, and an abundance of woodlands offer endless opportunities to explore and learn. Campers will discover where and how animals live—including the popular beaver construction sites—identify songbirds, listen for bullfrogs, track small forest animals, and go ponding to witness the wonders of life under water.

Making Friends and Connecting to Nature
Campers will take picnic hikes to Whale Rock and Cedar Hill, help forest friends by creating bird feeders and insect hotels, and discover the secret lives of trees, flowers, and insects. Nature journals document campers’ adventures and discoveries, and nature art projects bring out their creative side. Campers make new friends while they find their individual and group connections to the fascinating natural world around them.

Our place-based practice is inspired by this exceptional property while building on The Trustees’ expertise in nature conservation, historic landscapes, regenerative agriculture, and culinary education.

All programs will follow the 2022 Massachusetts State guidelines for COVID-19.

Parent Testimonials

Two of my boys went and it was the first camp experience for my youngest. He was really nervous the first day, but by Wednesday he told me he wanted to go again and this time could do it without his big brother!

Great counselors, fun activities. We felt extra safe with both the camp’s COVID precautions and the extra steps taken during really hot days.

– Camp Parent

The children loved the activities and the freedom to roam and play and really get hands-on with nature. The counsellors were enthusiastic and gave the kids lots of freedom, without unnecessary rules and regulations. Having said that, they ensured the kids were safe at all times. Ideal camp.
