Mobile Farmers Market

A local food delivery program designed to bring fresh, local food from Trustees and other Massachusetts farms to Boston neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food.

Mark Gardner

The Trustees Mobile Farmers Market is an innovative local food delivery program on wheels, designed to bring fresh, local food from Trustees and other Massachusetts farms to Boston neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food.

The market carries a wide selection of seasonal vegetables and fruit, sourcing mainly from Powisset Farm in Dover, just 15 miles from Boston, as well as our other Trustees farm and some other local farm partners. We work with community partners like Dimock Health Center, Roxbury YMCA, and Whitter Street Health Center, among other organizations.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we transitioned this year to a direct farm share program in partnership with the Department of Transitional Assistance, serving 400 families whose SNAP (food stamps) account is directly debited for their purchase, and then immediately replenished through the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP).

Recipe cards and produce choices each week are translated into the customers’ languages, including Cantonese, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Vietnamese and Bengali.

My family needs the mobile market. Cooking is what we do. It’s part of our culture, and you can’t cook with bad ingredients. [This market] has the best ingredients I’ve seen in Boston, and I can actually afford it.

There’s so much more variety at the market this year. There’s berries every week. There’s honey, eggs, milk, and cheese. I can rely on it.
