Support and preserve some of the oldest working farms in America by participating in a Trustees-Grown CSA.
We own and operate five vibrant working farms in eastern Massachusetts: Appleton Farms in Ipswich, Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, Moose Hill Farm in Sharon, Powisset Farm in Dover, and Weir River Farm in Hingham. We also lease farmland to both family farmers and other non-profit farms across the state.
Local food and farming matters! While farmland in the nation rapidly disappears, preserving this piece of our collective history is a crucial part of our mission. To encourage more folks to eat locally, our thriving vegetable and meat Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs offer a mix of fresh farm products, and the same great products are available at our farm stores, open to the public. Many of our farms are open to the public and offer fun, family-friendly activities, and events.Join a CSA
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It’s a production model where consumers purchase a share of the farm’s total harvest in advance. Purchasing shares help farmers pay for the cost of production and allows them to focus on stewarding the land to grow high-quality food.
Why Participate in A Trustees CSA?
When you participate in a Trustees CSA, you make it possible for our farmers to implement climate-mitigating techniques that keep our soil healthy and the land preserved for years to come. CSAs are a cornerstone in our mission to protect special places. Without them, we could not continue operating and protecting some of the oldest working farms in America.
Is there risk associated with a CSA?
Farmers and shareholders share the same risks and challenges of production. For example, weather directly impacts crop production and can vary season to season. If the weather does not remain at a temperature necessary for a high-yielding crop, quality and/or quantity will be impacted. This means shareholders may not receive the expected quality or quantity in their shares. This also means that if the weather cooperates and remains at the right temperature for a high-yielding crop, shareholders will receive a bountiful harvest in their share.
What type of CSAs do the Trustees offer?
How do I sign up for a share?
Select and sign up for a Trustees share by visiting shopthetrustees.org, where you will find a list of our current offerings. Shareholders must be Trustees members to sign up for CSA. To become a member, visit thetrustees.org/membership.
What Is Included in A Trustees CSA?
Meat shares include 45 lbs total of Trustees-Grown beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and goat meat. Cuts include sirloins, roasts, bacon, whole chickens, lamb chops, sausage, and more.
Vegetable shares vary depending on pickup location and which farm the produce was grown. All vegetable shares feature Trustees-Grown produce no matter the pickup location. Some locations offer You-Pick opportunities, which include flowers, herbs, strawberries and more. Produce varies season to season but historically includes green beans, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, kale, lettuce, onions, peas, radish, shallot, tomatoes, turnips, winter squash, and much more!
Fruit shares vary season-to-season. Each share includes locally produced fruit like strawberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, and apples. We also try to offer fruits specific to the Northeast like gooseberries and currants.
Where Are Trustees CSA Pick Up Locations?
We have five pickup locations across our working farms. This allows our shareholders to choose a pickup location that works best for them. Pickup times and dates vary from once a week to once a month depending on the share.
How Much Does a Trustees CSA Cost?
Trustees CSAs range in price depending on location, type of crops grown, and size of share offered. Our prices range from $150 – $695. For a full list of prices and current offerings, visit shopthetrustees.org.
How Can I Support the Farmers if I Choose not to become a CSA shareholder?
The best way to support our Trustees farmers is to shop at our farm stores. All Trustees farm stores sell Trustees-Grown meat, vegetables, and freshly prepared food by our talented chefs using Trustees-Grown products. We have locations at Appleton, Powisset, Chestnut Hill, and Weir River Farm. (Store hours vary upon location.)
