Today, we provide shares to more than 650 families and we donate more than 10,000 pounds of food annually to local food pantries. We grow over 200 varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers suitable to the New England climate. Appleton Farms in Hamilton and Ipswich is one of the oldest continuously operating farms in the United States. Established in 1638 by a land grant to Samuel Appleton, it is the oldest working farm in Massachusetts, and at 1,000 acres, one of the largest. Perhaps more importantly, the farm preserves a bucolic, pastoral landscape, agricultural traditions, and historic farm buildings that are rapidly disappearing in the eastern part of the state.
Launched in 2016, the Trustees meat CSA runs from fall to spring and offers sustainably-raised, grass-fed and pastured meats from Trustees farms. Meat CSA shares include beef, pork, chicken, and lamb, as well as an add-on option for eggs. This share totals 45lbs of Trustees Grown, 100% grass-fed beef and lamb, pastured pork and chicken, and goat by request. There are three pickups once a month.
To connect people with the rich history of farming at Appleton, a vegetable Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program was established in 2002. Vegetable CSA members buy a share of the produce grown each season and share in the risks and rewards of farming, taking home a rich bounty of fresh produce, flowers and other farm products each week during the summer and fall. The 100 shares available in the first year sold out in two weeks. Today, we grow 600 shares. We are currently sold out and accepting new members on our waitlist only.
