WILLIAMSBURG – The Trustees of Reservations today announced a solar installation project at the newly-acquired Beaver Brook property in Williamsburg and Northampton to power operations. PhippenAdams Solar, a Northampton-based LLC specializing in providing solar power to community organizations, will provide financial support for Northeast Solar’s installation work over the next several days on the former clubhouse’s roof that The Trustees will be transforming into office space for their Western Massachusetts staff.
PhippenAdams is installing the solar array at no cost to The Trustees and then offers a six-year purchase power agreement allowing The Trustees to pay a reduced rate for the power generated by the solar panels. After six years, PhippenAdams will donate the panels to The Trustees.
“This is a great partnership opportunity for The Trustees that will directly address our strategic priority to reduce our carbon footprint across our organization,” said Wendy Ferris, The Trustees’ Vice President for the Valley and Central Massachusetts. “We greatly admire their mission and want to thank PhippenAdams Solar for this creative donation and support for Beaver Brook.”
In The Trustees’ new five-year strategic plan, one of the main priorities to “inspire climate hope” as an organization through a variety of strategies including taking steps to further reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency at Trustees’ locations around Massachusetts.
PhippenAdams Solar has helped more than 50 nonprofits in the Valley by installing solar panels, including the Northampton Survival Center, CISA, Springfield Museums, Just Roots, Revitalize CDC, and the Northampton Senior Center.
Beaver Brook is The Trustees’ newest reservation. Located in Williamsburg and Northampton, Beaver Brook is 260 acres of open space that was formerly a golf course. The Trustees will be rewilding the property, providing accessible trails for all, and restoring the wetlands and floodplains to provide flood mitigation and climate resilience to the area.
