BOSTON, Mass. – Today, in celebration of Trustees of Reservations Day in Massachusetts, The Trustees is pleased to announce the creation of a specialty vehicle license plate supporting the mission of protecting natural, scenic, and historic landscapes across the Commonwealth for everyone to enjoy. The license plate pre-order process goes live today, May 21.
A total of 3,000 pre-orders are needed for the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to begin manufacturing the license plates.
“We are always looking for creative ways to increase awareness and sustain our work to conserve and connect people to the outdoors,” said Katie Theoharides, president and CEO of The Trustees. “These new specialty license plates would let Massachusetts residents visibly show their support for The Trustees and the proceeds would help fund conservation and protection of special places for everyone to enjoy.”
To pre-order a specialty plate, go to www.thetrustees.org/licenseplate. The website also includes more information about the process, along with frequently asked questions. A total of $40 is due upon ordering. If replacing your current license plate with a Trustees specialty plate, there will be a swap fee at the time of issuance of the Trustee specialty plate. The swap fee may vary depending on your current plate expiration. A total of $28 of every initial plate purchase goes directly to The Trustees to support land conservation and programming needs. Specialty plates need to be renewed every two years. In addition to the standard $60 car registration renewal fee, drivers would also pay a $40 bi-annual specialty plate fee, which will go directly to The Trustees.
The plate purchase is also tax-deductible. Of the initial $40 payment, $28 is tax-deductible. The $40 bi-annual renewal fee is also tax-deductible.
The Trustees’ specialty plate can be purchased by any Massachusetts driver and is not restricted to Trustees’ members.
All Trustee specialty plate pre-orders must go through the Trustees. Do not contact the RMV with questions about the Trustees License Plate.
