Ripples Towards the Future

A landmark exhibition, Ripples Towards the Future is the first time in the Museum’s 100+ year history that the Native American Gallery will feature more work by living Indigenous artists than by 19th- and 20th-century artists. Guest-curated by artist Gina Adams (American: Ojibwa/Lakota descent/not enrolled, Irish/Lithuanian immigrant without documentation), the exhibition features twenty contemporary Indigenous artists based throughout North America. To include paintings, prints, murals, sculpture, video, and traditional forms such as baskets, six artists including Adams will select works of art from the Museum’s collection of Native American art for display and write extended labels about connections to their art and to their identity as Indigenous people.
