Discover the artistic mastery of Moraine Farm, a Gilded Age country estate with a unique place in American landscape history.
On this 45-minute walking tour you to explore one of the cornerstone commissions of Frederick Law Olmsted, the “Father of American Landscape Design” and creator of New York City’s Central Park. Hired by a wealthy Boston family in the 1880s to transform their North Shore property, Olmsted used the commission as a living laboratory, refining techniques and an aesthetic that would define his private estate work across the country.
Beyond the artistry of the landscape, Moraine Farm serves as a window into the lifestyle of Boston’s Gilded Age. As we traverse the grounds, we’ll discuss the cultural importance of these grand country estates for America’s new industrial and mercantile elite of the 1800s.
Whether you are a fan of history or a nature lover, this tour will deepen your appreciation for how innovative design transformed a rugged landscape into an enduring masterpiece of the North Shore.
