About Discover Millborn Farm: A Community Celebration

Celebrate the opening of Millborn Farm with a full day of nature exploration, hands-on activities, and outdoor discovery for all ages. Join The Trustees, community partners, and local experts as we welcome visitors to this special new property and its remarkable landscape of fields, forests, and old-growth trees.

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy guided bird hikes, family-friendly crafts, a nature scavenger hunt, and opportunities to explore the property at their own pace. Visitors can also participate in a community science activity using iNaturalist, a popular nature identification app that helps people document local plants, wildlife, and biodiversity while contributing to real-world conservation research.

We are thrilled to partner with the Massachusetts Arborists Association for a series of interactive demonstrations and educational experiences taking place throughout the property:

Ask the Arborist
Have a tree concern? Speak directly with Massachusetts Certified Arborists and get answers to your tree care questions. Bring photos or small twig samples and learn practical, environmentally responsible ways to support healthy trees and resilient landscapes.

Tree Tours
Explore Millborn Farm’s collection of magnificent mature trees alongside experienced arborists. Learn about notable species found across the property and discover the important role trees play in supporting wildlife habitat, clean air, climate resilience, and healthy ecosystems.

Ornamental Pruning Demonstrations
Watch the art and science of pruning in action. Arborists will demonstrate techniques that improve tree structure, encourage healthy growth, and support long-term vitality. Guests are encouraged to stop by, ask questions, and learn more about proper tree care practices.

Professional Climbing Demonstrations
See professional arborists ascend into the tree canopy using specialized climbing equipment and safety techniques. Learn how trained experts care for mature trees from above and how thoughtful stewardship helps preserve these important natural resources for generations to come.

Kids’ Climb
Young adventurers can experience the excitement of climbing a tree with guidance from trained arborists using professional equipment and safety gear. This hands-on activity offers children a fun and memorable way to connect with the natural world.

Norfolk Hunt Club Demonstration with Horses and Hounds
Experience a longstanding New England tradition as riders, horses, and hounds from the Norfolk Hunt Club visit Millborn Farm for a special outdoor demonstration. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the history, horsemanship, training, and stewardship traditions associated with the hunt club while seeing the horses and hounds up close in a beautiful farm setting.

Whether you’re interested in birds, trees, conservation, photography, or simply spending time outdoors, Millborn Farm’s opening celebration offers something for everyone. Bring your curiosity, comfortable walking shoes, and a spirit of exploration as we welcome the public to discover this beautiful new property together.
