About The Queer Language of Flowers Lecture

In honor of Pride Month, join us for an immersive and heartwarming presentation and lecture of queer history, identity, and self-expression through the secret symbolism of flowers in partnership with The History Project.

For centuries, people have used floriography, the practice of sending messages through flowers, to share feelings, ideas, and identities. Over time, some blooms, like Sappho’s violets and Oscar Wilde’s green carnations, hold special meaning in queer history and culture. Whether you’re here to honor queer resilience, celebrate your own journey, or simply play with petals — this space is for you.

About The History Project: The History Project is focused exclusively on documenting and preserving the history of New England’s LGBTQ communities and sharing that history with LGBTQ individuals, organizations, allies, and the public.

The History Project is a community archives – a repository, historical society, and museum for the LGBTQ+ community’s history. THP is an independent non-profit organization founded in 1980 that holds LGBTQ+ historical records and ephemera, supports LGBTQ+ history research, and shares LGBTQ+ history through public exhibits and events
