About Owl Prowl at Lyman Reserve

Join us and explore the fascinating world of owls that breed in Massachusetts! We will talk about how to identify owls by call, where to find them, and how owls can successfully hunt at night. We will take our skills to the trail and listen for owls on the paths of Lyman Reserve.

While we’ll keep our ears tuned and eyes peeled for the elusive owls that call this area home, nature doesn’t always follow a script, so sightings or sounds are not guaranteed. Along the way, we’ll also be on the lookout for other creatures of the night that thrive after dark. This immersive nighttime experience is an exciting opportunity to connect with the wonders of the natural world.

First time at Lyman? Lyman’s one-and-a-half-mile loop trail winds its way from the parking lot to Red Brook, inviting deeper exploration of the reserve’s freshwater wetlands, pine barrens, and sandy beach; a quarter-mile trail across Head of the Bay Road provides a scenic jaunt through maritime scrub oak and pine to the beach. On this hike, you will enjoy the scenic routes as the sun sets before nature’s transition to night, when we will let stars and ‘hoots’ be our guide.
