About Winter Solstice Tree ID Walk

Celebrate the winter solstice with a guided walk led by herbalist and arborist Alex Klein in the Leland St Cooperative Garden.

Even after fall winds have stripped them of their leaves, trees provide clues to their identification by way of their bark, leaf scars, and other individual characteristics. We will learn to point out key characteristics that will provide you the skills to identify any tree, even in the winter months. Warm wild herbal tea will be offered during the walk.

After the walk, participants are invited to join the garden community for their annual winter solstice celebration: welcome the Return of the Light by placing luminarias all around the garden. At 4:00 they will share a brief circle, offering an inclusive program with poems, songs, thoughts or anything else you want to share.

Hot cider and finger food snacks will be served.

This is a sliding scale ticketed event in partnership with the Boston Food Forest Coalition. Please register on their website.

The Leland St Cooperative Garden is located at 4 Leland St in Jamaica Plain, a short walk from the Forest Hills Orange Line Station. Street parking is available. The guided walk will be 100-200 meters around the grounds of the garden, with seating options available nearby.
