About Wildlife Identification & Tracking Workshop

Venture into the heart of nature with our immersive Wildlife Identification & Tracking Workshop, where you’ll develop keen observational skills and uncover the hidden lives of wild animals. Participants will learn to interpret the subtle signs animals leave behind and gain a deeper connection to the ecosystems around them.

In this hands-on experience, you’ll discover the art of identifying animal tracks, differentiating between species based on their unique footprints, and piecing together movement patterns from game trails and migration routes. You’ll also dive into scat analysis—using animal droppings to determine recent species presence and dietary habits. Observation techniques play a central role, as you learn to conduct effective animal counts and maintain checklist-driven records in field conditions. The workshop includes direct engagement with fur and skeletal remains, teaching you how to identify species from their physical traces.

To fully benefit from the day’s activities, participants should arrive equipped with insect protection (bug spray and face nets), long-sleeved apparel for practical and protective comfort, binoculars and a notebook/writing utensil.

Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, citizen scientists, educators, and anyone eager to explore wildlife ecology without prior experience, this workshop provides the essential tools to read the natural world more insightfully. Join us to enhance your tracking proficiency, deepen your understanding of field-based wildlife research, and experience the satisfaction of uncovering the hidden narratives of forest inhabitants.

Trail conditions vary from easy to moderate, accessibility on trails is limited due to steep hills/rocky paths and multiple sections of trails with steps. Restrooms will be open and located in the visitors center.

Recommended for ages 8 and up. Children’s pricing available for ages 9-12.
