The phrase “The king is dead, long live the king!” dates back to the 15th century. It simultaneously announces the death of one monarch while saluting the continuity and ascension of the monarch that has already been groomed for the new role. ”The King Is Dead.” seeks to challenge the status quo in an industry dominated by white male chefs who mentor younger white male chefs to step into roles of influence as their careers sunset.
The Iconoclast Dinner Experience (IDE) is thrilled to partner with our friends at The Farm Institute this event that centers Island-based sustainable agriculture and female culinary and beverage professionals as the stars of the show.
The residency culminates with the 2025 Class of “The King Is Dead.” development of an aspirational menu solely with island-based ingredients and a festive outdoor celebration at The FARM Institute.
