About Full Moon Owl Prowl at Lyman Reserve

Join us for a magical Full Moon Owl Prowl as we explore the fascinating world of owls that breed in Massachusetts under the glow of the full moon! We’ll discuss how to identify owls by their calls, where to find them, and the incredible adaptations that allow them to hunt successfully at night.

With the moonlight guiding our way, we’ll take to the trails of Lyman Reserve, listening for the calls of these elusive nocturnal hunters. While sightings or sounds are never guaranteed, the full moon provides a unique opportunity to experience the nighttime world in a whole new way. Along the journey, we’ll also keep an eye (and ear) out for other creatures that thrive after dark.

This immersive nighttime experience is an exciting opportunity to connect with the wonders of the natural world.

First time at Lyman? Lyman’s one-and-a-half-mile loop trail winds its way from the parking lot to Red Brook, inviting deeper exploration of the reserve’s freshwater wetlands, pine barrens, and sandy beach; a quarter-mile trail across Head of the Bay Road provides a scenic jaunt through maritime scrub oak and pine to the beach. On this hike, you will enjoy the scenic routes as the sun sets before nature’s transition to night, when we will let stars and ‘hoots’ be our guide.
