The Castle Neck River is part of the Essex River basin, an estuary fed by numerous such creeks and tidal rivers. This area is home to many native and migratory birds, fish, crustaceans, mammals, and plants. Choate Island is the centerpiece of the basin and the Crane Wildlife Refuge, and is home to several structures dating back as far as the early 1700s. It’s a marvelous place to observe wildlife and take in the peace and beauty of the cultural and natural landscapes.

Our USCG-inspected pontoon riverboat, the Osprey, offers partial shade and seats ten, making for a comfortable ride. Our boat captains, who also often serve as guides, are all licensed to operate the vessel. Most trips last 90 minutes. Registrants will receive a pre-event email with details on where to meet, what to bring, etc.
