About Comfort on the Farm: A Juneteenth Farm Dinner with Comfort Kitchen

Join us as we partner with James Beard Award-nominated Comfort Kitchen for a special Juneteenth farm dinner at Powisset Farm.

For this meaningful evening, Comfort Kitchen’s acclaimed team will gather to honor the stories, traditions, and resilience of Black foodways. Rooted in cultural expression and community, this dinner celebrates the power of food to connect people across histories and geographies.

The event will take place outside under a tent, welcoming more guests to share in a vibrant, communal farm-to-table experience. The evening’s menu will highlight Powisset-grown and locally sourced ingredients, shaped by the early summer season. The evening’s menu will be released as it becomes available.

Guests will be seated at communal tables for a warm, shared dining experience that reflects both the spirit of Juneteenth, beloved connections to farming, and Comfort Kitchen’s deep commitment to storytelling through food.

Featuring:

-Chef Sāsha Coleman
A Boston native, Chef Sāsha Coleman brings a culinary approach rooted in culture, care, and community. Raised in a family of restaurateurs, she developed an early respect for food as both craft and connection, later honing her skills in some of Boston’s most demanding kitchens, including SRV.

As a member of the opening team at Tanám in Somerville, Sāsha helped shape a restaurant celebrated for its culturally grounded, forward-thinking cuisine. Serving as Chef and Kitchen Manager, she played a central role in developing the menu and defining the kitchen’s voice, contributing to widespread recognition from The Boston Globe and Eater Boston.

Named a StarChefs Boston Rising Star in 2020 and a 2026 James Beard Award nominee, Sāsha brings a thoughtful, collaborative leadership style to the kitchen. Her cooking balances nostalgia with innovation, emphasizing storytelling, technique, and intention while honoring the communities gathered around the table.

-Chef Nyanyika Banda
Chef Nyanyika Banda is a Malawian-American award-winning chef, writer, and educator whose work bridges food, culture, and storytelling. Drawing from her Malawian heritage and American upbringing, she explores the migration of flavors and traditions through her cooking and teaching.

She is the author of Black Panther: The Official Wakanda Cookbook and the founder of the acclaimed Martha’s Daughter, which received an Eater Award in 2018. Her work spans restaurants, farm dinners, and community-centered programming across the country.

Now based on Cape Cod, she serves as Executive Chef for Red Jacket Resorts, continuing to bring a deeply personal and globally informed perspective to her work.

-Chef Valentine Howell
A Dorchester native and two-time James Beard Award nominee, Chef Valentine Howell is known for bold Afro-Caribbean cuisine that blends cultural heritage with refined technique and vibrant flavor.

While serving as Executive Chef at Krasi in Boston’s Back Bay, he earned a James Beard nomination for Best Chef: Northeast in 2023. He later competed on Top Chef in 2024 and has worked alongside renowned Boston chefs, including Lydia Shire.

In 2024, he co-founded Black Cat Eatery, a pop-up named Best Meal of 2024 by Boston Magazine and Best Pop-Up by Eater Boston; Black Cat is now the culinary incubator in residence at Wink and Nod in the South End.

In just a few short years, Comfort Kitchen has become one of Boston’s most celebrated restaurants, recognized for its commitment to collaboration, cross-cultural connection, and community building. As a Black-owned and immigrant-owned restaurant, their work reflects a deep investment in honoring global traditions while creating something entirely their own.
