About Introduction to Spring Plants

Join us for a walk at Bear Swamp Reservation to explore the plants that are beginning to emerge. Bear Swamp is home to an abundance of spring wildflowers, many of which grow leaves, flower, and die back in a matter of weeks. The unique forest ecology of springtime is full of surprises. The window to experience these plants that pop up at the earliest edge of spring is short, so you won’t want to miss it. We will be keeping an eye out for trilliums, dutchman’s breeches, blue cohosh, and more!

This event involves walking on difficult trails with uneven surfaces, rocks, roots, steep inclines, and mud. The planned trail includes one stream crossing which is traversed on rocks. The walk will be roughly 1 ½ miles at a leisurely pace with frequent stops, and last roughly 60 minutes. Bring sturdy footwear that you don’t mind getting wet or muddy, water, snacks, layers, and a camera or notebook to record the unique plants we come across!

This free program is led by TerraCorps Member, Henry Greene. Any questions? Reach out to henry.greene@thetrustees.org. In the event of inclement weather, we have held a rain date for May 3rd. Any schedule changes will be shared to registered guests via email.
