About CraneOutdoors: Marine Archaeology and Sunset Hike

Sunset views with a side of shipwreck! This program will start with an indoor presentation by David Robinson, our state Underwater Archaeologist, followed by a guided hike down to Steep Hill Beach to discover remnants of several shipwrecks, including the Ada K. Damon, which ran aground on Steep Hill Beach in 1909. Participants will learn how marine archaeologists and the Trustees are working to research and protect these important artifacts, all while enjoying sunset views on the beach. https://www.mass.gov/orgs/board-of-underwater-archaeological-resources

UPDATE March 2024: A ~50 foot section of the Ada K. Damon hull has been recently exposed by erosion caused by storms and king tides. Join us for a unique opportunity to see this large artifact before it is buried once again.

Please check the weather and be prepared to be outdoors for up to 2 hours, and for a 1-2 mile hike across unpaved trails and soft sand. The shipwreck is in the tidal zone and feet will get wet, please plan accordingly.

This program is geared towards adults. For a family-friendly shipwreck hike, check out CraneExporer: Shipwreck Scholars.
