About The Great Create

Lincoln School Foundation will hold the 3rd Annual Great Create at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. This is an event for K-5 students attending Lincoln Public Schools including the Hanscom campus and their families (not a drop off event).

Registration and more details HERE.

Dress for the weather! We’ll hold the event outdoors in the Park light drizzle or shine. Note: the RAIN DATE is Sunday, June 2.

2024’s inspiration is Hugh Hayden’s Huff and a Puff, a slanted replica of the one room cabin Henry David Thoreau lived in at Walden Pond. Listen to the artist talk about it here. Great Create participants construct homes by tilting, leaning, and balancing natural and recycled objects. We’re thinking about persevering through challenges, weathering the storm, and effecting change!

Students will collaborate in small groups to create sculptural constructions. They will delve into big ideas, use unexpected art-making materials, and make connections between art, nature, and themselves. Enthusiastic instructors, led by independent Museum Educator, Sarah Brockway, LPS staff, and 8th graders will support the student creators.

The Great Create showcases the LPS Step Team with a live performance! Step is an artform that involves making acapella-style beats with your body to create an experience that brings together dance, music, and community. The LPS Step team is a diverse group of students who are committed to standing together against all forms of discrimination and who work together as a team, whilonoring each unique individual.

Participants are welcome to explore campus from 11 AM – 5 PM. Bring a picnic or order lunch from the Twisted Tree Cafe at deCordova.
