About CraneOutdoors: The Castle Hill Hike
Come explore the lesser-visited corners of Castle Hill and its surroundings with us this season. This hike is a CraneOutdoors guide favorite because it’s got a little bit of all the things that make the Crane Estate such a special place…
- A stroll along the spine of Castle Hill, starting at the Great House, down the famous Grand Allée, and ending at Steep Hill with far-reaching views of Ipswich Bay, Plum Island, and the New England coastline all the way into Maine? Check.
- A walk along the Crane Estate’s less visited, but-no-less-beautiful “other” seashore (Steep Hill Beach) where, if the tide is right, you can see a shipwreck? Check.
- A hike through the dunes with spectacular views of the saltmarsh surrounding Fox Creek? Check.
- A visit to the newly renovated Rose Garden and the beautiful Italian Garden? Check.
This hike brings us through historical built landscapes, past sweeping views of Castle Neck and the Great Marsh, and through quiet woodland trails. This one truly has it all.
Weather cancellation policy: All trips will take place rain or shine with the following exceptions: If there is a high confidence that thunder and lightning will be present, we may cancel a trip up to one hour in advance. If the forecast is for steady and heavy rain all day or calls for excessive winds, we may decide to cancel by 5pm on the day before the event. If either of these happens, you will be notified by email with as much notice as possible and issued a full refund.
The starting location and other relevant details for all hikes, kayak paddles, and river boat trips will be emailed to registrants before the event at the address provided upon registration. Please note that registration for this event closes 3 hours prior to the start time and we cannot accommodate walk-ins or on-site sales. Thank you for understanding.
