About Managing Rats in the Garden

How do we garden in an urban environment without succumbing to our growing rat populations? Join Alaina Gonzalez-White and the Brookside community gardeners for a discussion on ecologically-friendly rat control.

Alaina is a representative of Wisdom Good Works, a nonprofit whose mission is to restore ecological balance by eliminating rodenticide (rat poison) and focusing on other methods of population control.

We will have a conversation about general rat ecology and how to best coexist with rats in our gardens, while not having to make sacrifices in our harvest. We will also share some techniques on rat fencing and other immediate rat control that is less harmful to the ecosystem than rat poison. And, we will hear a report back on the ongoing rat birth control study at Brookside Community Garden.

This event is free and open to all. Pre-registration is suggested for updates on potential location changes due to rain. Brookside Garden is located at the corner of Merriam and Minton St. in Jamaica Plain, a short walk from the Stony Brook Orange line station.
