About Mushroom Walk at Copicut Woods

Calling all mushroom enthusiasts! Join us for a Mushroom Walk with mycologist Aaron Keaton. After a rainy summer season, wild mushrooms are thriving along the trails of Copicut Woods!

This will be an easy to moderate walk along dirt trails with slight inclines in some areas. You can expect semi-rocky terrain and exposed roots in some areas of the trail. The path taken will be determined based on where the most mushrooms can be found at the time of the walk. Please note that there are no bathrooms at this location.

Depending on the weather, there will be different types of mushrooms to explore. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle, tick and bug repellent, and an ID field guide (if you have one).

This walk is ideal for beginners, but experienced foragers are also welcome!

About Aaron:

Aaron Keaton, a Keene State College graduate, developed a deep appreciation for the natural world, especially mushrooms, during his explorations in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. He is an avid hiker, who can often be found on trails photographing each and every mushroom he comes across. Currently based out of his hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Aaron works to document and conserve fungi, as well as teach others. He shares his experience and knowledge with the community through presentations, walks, and workshops across New England. His work emphasizes the intricate relationship between fungi and ecosystem health, while also exploring the profound impact fungi have on humanity, through topics such as food, medicine, and culture.

Note: Our mushroom programs are led by knowledgeable guides and focus on the ecology of mushrooms and their vital role in the ecosystem. Please note, we will forage mushrooms for educational purposes only and not for consuming. Join us as we discover the wonders of mushrooms and their natural habitats.
