About Scenic Songs: A Hiking Concert with Mark Erelli

Calling all hiking enthusiasts and music lovers!

The Trustees is pleased to announce a new season of “Scenic Songs” hiking concerts taking place at properties across the Commonwealth in 2024. Join us on the trail with some of your favorite performing artists for a guided hike and intimate live music experience like no other. These unplugged and acoustic shows are unique opportunities to enjoy live music in community and nature.

On August 10th, join Mark Erelli on the trail at Notchview!

Mark Erelli turns adversity into finely embroidered rock songs that burn with urgency on his 2023 album Lay Your Darkness Down. Following full-bodied rock forebears Tom Petty, George Harrison, and Roy Orbison, Erelli’s songwriting explores the unknown glories of this planet and love’s transformational power. Over his two decade-long career, the singer-songwriter-sideman-producer-writer has proven himself equally at home in a multitude of roles: producing albums for artists like GRAMMY-winner Lori McKenna; serving as a sideman guitarist for artists like Paula Cole, Marc Cohn, and Josh Ritter; writing and producing his own material, like 2018’s “By Degrees,” for which he was nominated for Song of the Year at the Americana Honors and Awards; and most recently, becoming an advocate for low-vision artists and working with venues to make their spaces more accessible. Written in the wake of his diagnosis with a degenerative retinal disease, Erelli’s 2023 album Lay Your Darkness Down is the next step on Erelli’s journey, following up on 2020’s Blindsided, which garnered praise from Rolling Stone Country, the Associated Press, NPR, The Boston Globe, and more.

Trail snacks provided. We recommend that guests bring a portable camp stool or blanket for seating during the live music set. We will also have a limited number of camp stools available for use.

Notchview Reservation Trail Hike Details: Moderate

This 2.5 mile loop has one steady .25 mile incline at the beginning followed by gentler, rolling terrain throughout. After walking along one of our most popular trails, the group will encounter the best vista at Notchview, Trela Shelter and Sawmill Field, where we will pause to enjoy Mark Erelli’s unplugged set against the backdrop of the Hoosac Range during golden hour. The entire hike is 2.5 miles, a gentle 1-mile return hike after the performance.

Plenty of parking is available and there are indoor and outdoor public restrooms available at the Visitor Center.

Please note, audience size for this intimate offering is limited and pre-registration is required.

In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been held for this program on August 11 from 4-7pm. Any scheduling changes will be communicated to registered guests via email.
