Appleton Farms is excited to welcome local artist Heidi Caswell Zander to instruct plein air painting this season. Find inspiration in the natural beauty of the farm landscape as the daylight shifts through the landscape, casting a wide array of colors. Your painting journey will begin with a moderated demonstration highlighting color mixing and layering, for creating a color-rich painting of your own experience of the Appleton’s trails. Your endeavor will be supported by Zander providing insights throughout the process. To wrap up the experience enjoy a cup of tea in the Farmhouse Library while sharing your artwork with the group.
This class is for all experience levels, beginner to advanced. A diverse group of painting levels creates a dynamic experience for all. Bring your easel, paints and gear for expanding your use of color and ways of seeing. A supply list will be sent out to all participants in advance.
About Heidi:
Heidi Caswell Zander’s work bares the imprint of growing up immersed in the artist culture of Cape Ann Massachusetts. As a youth summer days were spent in adult workshops absorbing the enthusiasm for capturing a cloud on 140 lb. watercolor paper, for being a link between natural wonder observed (on location) to its impression on a rectangle which would hang on a wall. She studied from 1972 forward with Betty Lou Schlemm and her teacher Edgar Whitney. From these foundations she went on to Rhode Island School of Design and lived in Rome during her senior year as a member of The European Honors Society. She holds a B.F.A in Painting and an M.A.T. , a Masters in Art Teaching. After graduating 7 years were spent exhibiting and curating art in Westchester County, New York where numerous awards and citations were earned. This was followed by a decade of exploring the arts as a department head in Berlin Germany. In 2000 Caswell Zander returned full time to her native island, opening Tidal Edge Gallery in 2005. Zander established Creative Community over 8 years ago to broaden accessibility to art community through inclusive programs. She also has been an active artist member of North Shore Art Association, Rocky Neck Art Colony, Newburyport Art Association, Rockport Art Association & Museum, and the National Association of Women Artists.
Caswell Zander’s art is in collections throughout the United States and Europe.
