About Classic Indian Cooking: Tried and Tested – Adult Cooking Class

Join guest chef Shruti Mehta to explore traditional recipes of a classic cuisine.

In a traditional Indian kitchen, there are some never-fail recipes handed down from generation to generation. The recipes incorporate basic spices and old-world techniques yet are deceptively simple to prepare. In this hands-on class, traditional recipes of the north, south, and west will be explored. You will learn to make Potato and Tomato Curry, a popular, delicious comfort food from north India; Pongal, a south Indian rice dish traditionally offered to the gods before harvest; and Rava Sheera, a sweetened semolina dessert from west India that is a special offering to the god Krisna. You’ll leave this class with never-fail recipes to share with generations of your own family!

As part of Powisset Farm’s Guest Chef Series, Easy Indian Cuisine is taught by Shruti Mehta, who has been teaching Indian cooking to Boston-area Indian food aficionados for over 25 years. In addition to sharing the distinguished culinary traditions of India, Shruti is a designer of ethnic Indian clothing.
