Stop by the Old Manse for our Story Harvest series where we bring children’s literature, art, and farming together! Join us for story time where we read the book “Miss Maple’s Seeds.” Following the story we will collect wild indigo seeds from from the historic garden that visitors can take home with them. This program lasts about 45-60 minutes and is recommended for children ages 4 and up – though all are welcome!
The history: 181 years ago, Henry David Thoreau and John Garrison planted a vegetable garden at the Old Manse as a wedding gift to author Nathaniel Hawthorne and artist Sophia Peabody Hawthorne. The Trustees continues to plant, grow, and harvest that garden today.
