This event has sold out.
Stop by the Old Manse for our Story Harvest series where we bring children’s literature, art, and farming together. Join us for story time where we read the book “Sophie’s Squash.” Following the story, we will harvest butternut squash from the historic vegetable garden that visitors can decorate andt home! This program lasts about 45 – 60 minutes and is recommended for children ages 4 and up though all are welcome!
The history: 181 years ago, Henry David Thoreau and John Garrison planted a vegetable garden at the Old Manse as a wedding gift to author Nathaniel Hawthorne and artist Sophia Peabody Hawthorne. The Trustees continues to plant, grow, and harvest that garden today.
