Calling all hiking enthusiasts and music lovers! The Trustees is pleased to announce a full series of “Scenic Songs” hiking concerts to take place at properties across the Commonwealth June through October of 2023. Join us on the trail with some of your favorite performing artists for a guided hike and intimate live music experience like no other. These unplugged and acoustic shows are unique opportunities to enjoy live music in community and nature.
On August 12th join Erin McKeown on the trail at Notchview!
Erin McKeown is a musician, writer, and producer known internationally for their prolific disregard of stylistic boundaries. Their brash and clever electric guitar playing is something to see. Their singing voice is truly unique —clear, cool, and collected. Over the last 20 years, they have performed around the world, released 11 full length albums, and written for film, television, and theater, all the while refining their distinctive and challenging mix of American musical forms.
Erin’s first musical, Miss You Like Hell, written with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes, opened Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2018. It was nominated for 5 Drama Desk Awards, including Best Lyrics, Best Music and Best Orchestrations, and The Wall Street Journal named it Best Musical of 2018.
Leading their own band, Erin has performed at Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, and the Newport Folk Festivals. A familiar presence on NPR and the BBC, McKeown’s songs have also appeared in numerous commercials and television shows.
Erin’s latest album KISS OFF KISS is out now, and they are a 2022-23 fellow at The University of Chicago’s Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry.
Trail snacks provided. We recommend that guests bring a portable camp stool or blanket for seating during the live music set. We will also have a limited number of camp stools available for use.
Notchview Reservation Trail Hike Details: Moderate
This 2.5 mile loop has one steady .25 mile incline at the beginning followed by gentler, rolling terrain throughout. After walking along one of our most popular trails, the group will encounter the best vista at Notchview, Trela Shelter and Sawmill Field, where we will pause to enjoy Erin McKeown’s unplugged set against the backdrop of the Hoosac Range during golden hour. The entire hike is 2.5 miles, a gentle 1-mile return hike after the performance.
Plenty of parking is available and there are indoor and outdoor public restrooms available at the Visitor Center.
Please note, audience size for this intimate offering is limited and pre-registration is required.
In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been held for this program on August 13 from 4-7pm. Any scheduling changes will be communicated to registered guests via email.
