About Fermentation 101: Sauerkraut

Winter is the perfect time to learn a new skill! Join island fermentors, Laurisa Rich and Katie Ruppel, in these fermentation workshops.

1/7 Homemade Fire Cider: Laurisa will prepare this healthy herbal tonic, perfect for the winter season to be used as a cold and flu preventative. Each participant will take home a jar of fire cider prepared during the class.

3/4 Sauerkraut: We’ll discuss vegetable fermentation in general and together each participant will prepare a half-gallon mason jar of sauerkraut to take home with them. Class fee covers all the supplies including the airlock system needed for the fermentation to safely happen in your home.

Enrollment for each class is separate – if you’d like to attend both classes and receive a discounted price, please e-mail Lindsay at lbrown@thetrustees.org.

Please alert lbrown@thetrustees.org to any food allergies, restrictions, other accommodations you may have, or if you would like to attend but are unable to pay. Pre-registration is required for all Farm Institute cooking classes.

Consuming raw or undercooked meat, poultry seafood or eggs may increase your risk of food borne illness.

Program Refunds/Cancellations: In the event that a program is cancelled due to severe weather, low enrollment, or other circumstances, we will notify you as soon as possible by email and issue you a full refund within 14 days of the cancellation. If you cannot attend a program as planned, contact lbrown@thetrustees.org at least 7 days prior to the start of the program to receive a full refund or transfer to another date/class. Refunds and/or class transfers will not be granted for registration cancellations placed fewer than 7 days before the start of the program. There are no refunds for missed classes.
