Chips n' Dip Clay Workshop

About Creative Clay Super Chip’n’Dip for Children and Their Adults

Over 2 consecutive Saturday afternoons, using fun clay hand-building and decorating techniques good for any skill level, children and their adults will together create clay chip and dip plate combos of their own inspiration and design! All tools, materials and firing are included in this course, and work will be treated with durable glazes and firing in time for the big party!

All levels welcome. No ceramic experience necessary.

Ticket holders ages 5-15 must be accompanied by at least one registered adult. All persons in the studio must be registered to participate. This is strictly enforced.

One class is for building and decorating with raw clay, the second class is for ceramic color and glaze decoration, 2 hours for each class. Classes meet Saturdays January 29 and February 5, from 1 pm- 3 pm.

Adult and child work together to hand build, embellish in clay, and decorate with ceramic colors, each, a 10 inch diameter chip platter and a corresponding 4 inch diameter dip tray. The instructor will introduce them to the pinch, coil, and slab building methods, as well as multiple carving, stamping, and other surface decorating and clay painting options, suitable for any skill level in clay. Self-directed themes are encouraged, or students may take inspiration for themes and subject matter from the teacher. Their work will be fired to high temperature with food-safe glazes after the course and be ready to take home within 1 week after the final class.

Adults will be notified by email of available times for pick up after the final glaze firing is complete. An email address will be requested for communicating and coordinating pick up.

Workshop includes:

· 4 hours of instruction and assistance in building and decorating unique clay chip’n’dip plate combo.

· Tools, materials and firing.

Although clay won’t permanently stain garments, adults and children are encouraged to dress in clothes suitable for an art studio environment.

Inter-pandemic studio safety measures have been implemented: workstations are either protected by sneeze screens or socially distanced, and are furnished with a variety of disinfecting tools and agents. Contact tracing protocols will be exercised, and class-size is reduced at this time to optimize spacing of persons at all times inside the studio. Due to local and organizational mandates known at the time of this writing, mask-wearing is required at all times inside the studio.

Cancellation Policy: we reserve the right to impose a $30 non-refundable registration fee for each registration, if you decide not to take the class before it begins. We are not able to issue refunds for classes missed by the student once the course has started.

Every effort will be made to make up classes postponed by snow or other weather emergencies. Sunday afternoons following the postponed class are considered the foremost alternative. Adults are asked to look for campus snow closures on the deCordova pages on the Trustees website and to familiarize themselves with our notification protocols posted inside the studio.
