Friends on the Farm Afternoon Adventures

Friends on farm powisset

About Friends on the Farm Afternoon Adventures

In this 3-week Tuesday afterschool program we will focus on the wildlife at Powisset Farm, cook in the farm kitchen and create a special animal track stamp set. Each week we will participate in hands-on outdoor STEAM learning activities while maintaining social distance. Register for all three classes or one at a time!

Tuesday, November 2: In this session we will introduce the concept of exploring, tracking and identifying the different tracks & scats (animal waste) found at Powisset Farm and discuss the importance of wild animals to the farm’s ecosystem. After learning about the wildlife outside we will head inside the kitchen to bake zucchini brownies.

Tuesday, November 9: We will focus on the shape & size of the individual tracks we’ve discovered to identify animals and birds, then create special homemade stamps for each animal track. After creating our stamp set, we will head into the barnyard to compare the wildlife tracks with the tracks of our barnyard animals. Each track has a special purpose and helps our animal friends survive in their habitats.

Tuesday, November 16: In this session we will use our cumulative knowledge of tracks and scats to participate in a tracking scavenger hunt, challenging each friend to explore and identify animal tracks and report back to their teammates. The challenge will take place in Powisset’s back grazing fields and woodland trail system. After completing the scavenger hunt, we will head into the kitchen and make Pizza to celebrate all we’ve learned about animals on the farm.
