Creative Clay Halloween Houses for Parent and Child

About Creative Clay Halloween Houses – for Children and their Adults

WORKSHOP DATES: November 6 and 13th, 10AM-12PM

Over 2 consecutive Saturday mornings, using fun clay building and decorating techniques good for any skill level in clay, parent and child will together hand-build and decorate with ceramic colors and glazes a creative clay Halloween House of their own inspiration and design! All tools, materials and firing are included in this course, and work will be treated with durable glazes and firing for home display!

All levels welcome. No ceramic experience necessary.

Ticket holders ages 5-15 must be accompanied by at least one registered adult. All persons in the studio must be registered to participate. This is strictly enforced.

One class is for building and decorating with raw clay, the second class is for final clay embellishments and ceramic color decoration, 2 hours for each class. Classes meet November 6 and 13, from 10 am- 12 pm.

Parent and child will work together to hand build, embellish in clay, and decorate with ceramic colors a 6x6x6 inch sized Halloween (or otherwise) themed clay house/ lantern/ sculpture. The instructor will introduce them to the pinch, coil, and slab building methods, as well as multiple carving, stamping, and other surface decorating and clay painting options, suitable for any skill level in clay. Self-directed themes are encouraged, or students may take inspiration for themes and subject matter from the teacher. After the course, their work will be bisque fired, overglazed if requested by the parent/child, then fired again to high temperature, and be ready to take home in early December.

Parents will be notified by email of available times for pick up after the final glaze firing is complete. An email address will be requested for communicating and coordinating pick up.

Workshop includes:

· 4 hours of instruction and assistance in building and decorating a unique clay house.

· Tools, materials and firing.

Although clay won’t permanently stain garments, parents and kids are encouraged to dress in clothes suitable for an art studio environment.

Inter-pandemic studio safety measures have been implemented: workstations are either protected by sneeze screens or socially distanced, and are furnished with a variety of disinfecting tools and agents. Contact tracing protocols will be exercised, and class-size is reduced at this time to optimize spacing of persons at all times inside the studio. For this course, parent and child are asked to create as a unit at their assigned work station socially distanced from other groups at other stations. Mask-wearing may be required for kids, parents, and/or teacher inside the studio in accordance with concurrent CDC or Massachusetts guidance.

Cancellation Policy: we reserve the right to impose a $30 non-refundable registration fee for each registration, if you decide not to take the class before it begins. We are not able to issue refunds for classes missed by the student once the course has started.

In cases of inclement winter weather closing the property, every effort will be made to reschedule the class meeting. The following day, Sunday, same time of day and location, will be considered viable for postponement.
