About First People Trail (self-guided)

Come learn about the First People who lived on and enjoyed the land that is now Bird Park!

Over 10,000 years ago, the First People arrived to this area, and their descendants, the Massachusett are still here. The Neponset River and the land around it, including Bird Park, was once primarily inhabited by the Neponset band of the Confederacy of the Indigenous Massachusett. Come walk the trail to learn more about the First People, what life was like for the Massachusett before and after Europeans settled in this area, and the Massachusett People today.

This short walk is located by the old “swimming pool,” the pond with the frog fountain closest to the Washington Street entrance. Enjoy some fresh air and sunshine as you follow the informational signs posted along the paved path.
