Family Walk and Learn: Visiting Vernal Pools

About Family Walk and Learn: Visiting Vernal Pools

After surviving the cold months of winter, wildlife on the farm head to the springtime vernal pools appearing in the farm fields. These seasonal wetlands provide an oasis of water, shelter, and food to numerous winter-weary animals.  Wood frogs lay their eggs, mammals find nourishing early season grasses to graze, and migrating birds rest and refuel on the bugs that hatch in the water.

During this special guided hike with Trustees Ranger Stacie, we will use magnifying glasses, collection jars, and binoculars to explore these unique wetland habitats.

This is a family-friendly program appropriate for ages 5 and up.  Please note, though we love dogs, they are not allowed at Powisset Farm.
